Digital Fashion Week Returns with Web3 and Live Motion Capture Hologram

NEW YORK — Digital Fashion Week NY (DFWNY) is set to make a return to New York City, Paris, and Milan, coinciding with the schedule of traditional fashion week events. Kicking off in New York City, DFWNY delves into the dynamic transformations within the fashion industry, navigating the shift from In Real Life (IRL) to the online landscape (URL). The events are scheduled for February 8 and 9 at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), where attendees can immerse themselves in a showcase featuring innovative fashion designers, captivating runway shows, immersive experiences, live panels, and engaging networking events and parties. Co-hosting the events at FIT is the college’s Design and Technology (FIT DTech) Lab..
DFWNY will unveil the world's first-ever live motion capture hologram runway show, created by Future
Front Row, which will redefine expectations as an immersion-first path forward for the fashion industry.
Giant digital avatars will simulate the fluid movements of models via real time motion capture on the
runway, featuring work from designers Stephy Fung, Suza Vos x Harriet Davey, and Mutani. In addition, phygital runway shows will exhibit simultaneous digital and physical fashion in a seamless layered experience, with 3D assets ranging from augmented reality to digital twins in Sandbox, Unreal Engine or Roblox where designers show not only a traditional runway collection, but an evolved vision of customer engagement and the relationship of fashion with the games industry.
“Digital Fashion Week is excited to show what is possible in fashion through our series of events, curating immersive experiences that showcase the most cutting-edge innovators and visionary designers. Every year, our phygital fashion shows aim to redefine the very essence of fashion in the digital age, especially in pioneering the first-ever live mo-cap hologram fashion show.”
Clare Tattersall, founder of Digital Fashion Week.
We're incredibly grateful to be part of Digital Fashion Week NY this year. Digital Fashion Week has been the meeting place for innovation in the fashion industry for many years now, and we can't be more excited to have been asked to participate. We both share the same goal of pushing the envelope on what experiencing fashion means, the physicality of digital embodiment and placing deserving, talented artists on a pedestal. This year, we have in store an additional experiential layer to our previous AFW show, with a real time component to it.
Antonio Talarico and Isabelle Udo, co-founders of Future Front Row.
Based on three pillars of thought-leadership, innovation and creativity, DFWNY also includes Symposium at FIT, which explores disruption in the fashion industry — from concept to consumer — via panels, discussions, workshops and immersive exhibits. A well-curated cast of cutting edge innovators, seasoned experts and fashion insiders will dive into topics across vision, value and ethics behind the hype in a rapidly changing industry.
Co-hosting Digital Fashion Week at FIT gives our students and faculty a close look at emerging trends in 3D that are reshaping the new fashion value chain. This kind of partnership opens opportunities for industry to engage with academia as the next generation of innovators help create the future.
Michael Ferraro, executive director, FIT’s DTech Lab.
