StyleDNA covers all aspects of personal styling, wardrobe management, and shopping assistance. It begins by analyzing a user-uploaded selfie to identify the most flattering colors, patterns, shapes, and fabrics. Then, the app leverages the user's existing wardrobe to design perfectly suited outfits. Finally, it streamlines the shopping experience by curating clothing recommendations that align with the user's personalized style profile.

At the Metaverse Fashion Week, we spoke with Elena Volkova, co-founder of StyleDNA, about how AI can advance sustainability in the fashion industry.
What inspired you to start a fashion AI company (tell your story), and how did you identify the need for AI in the fashion industry?
It was in early 2018 that I came up with the idea of Style DNA. At the time I was buying a lot of clothes online and ended up returning most of them because they didn’t suit me at all. I started thinking about how great it would be if I could easily take a selfie and have all the available online clothes sorted for me and, as a tech-savvy person, the first solution that came to mind was AI.
How do you see AI transforming fashion design, production, and distribution over the next five to ten years?
I think that in 5 years time our AI stylist will be able to feed our requests and style types into an AI fashion designer, which will then create clothing in colors, texture and cuts that suit us perfectly. After we approve a design, I think it’ll be sent to a factory that already knows our measurements and then delivered to our doors by a drone with a little note that says “especially for you”.
In what ways can AI help brands understand and predict trends, especially for dynamic markets like Generation Z?
Fashion is cyclical and trends are constantly repeated, so it’s quite easy to predict them without AI by looking at what was in fashion 8-12 years ago. However, AI can create new trends, come up with some completely new styles and that’s really exciting - it has the power to innovate and shape the future of fashion.
How do you see AI contributing to more sustainable practices in fashion?
At Style DNA, we use AI to help you make informed decisions about whether clothes will suit you and how to pair them with items in your existing wardrobe, making it easy to shop more consciously.
How can AI help bridge the gap between online and in-store shopping experiences for a more seamless journey?
For us, it doesn’t matter whether a client shops online or in-store. As long as the user takes a photo of the item they’re considering buying, we’ll be able to give them expert advice on whether it’s a match.
Can you tell us about any specific AI technologies or models your Style DNA uses? How do they enhance clients fashion experience?
Style DNA uses 197 neural networks, each of which performs its own specific role and functions seamlessly for the user, responding to client requests in fractions of a microsecond, generating outfits or providing clothing recommendations.
